Digital Citizen: Why Google’s beginning to lose

You raise some incredibly interesting points here. I'm not too sure where I stand on this whole situation, but I have to agree that with better broadband and users wanting even more control over what they're searching for, a site like bing definitely stands a massive chance.

I use Windows happily and have done so since the days of winsock! I have played with Redhat, Ubunthu and other distro's and have only ever run into problems, whereas with Windows, when I run into a problem, it's usually quite easy to resolve. So yup, I'm a windows fan and 80% of those people who shoot down windows are the same people who shoot down Telkom, because it's cool to act bad :P

See, that's just it: Linux is great if you love fiddling with your OS. But at some point you don't want to have to deal with a load of unnecessary crap just to get around to doing basic tasks - and Windows, despite being "uncool", gets the job done. As do most of Microsoft's services.

That's the philosophy they've applied to Bing: Make it pretty, make it simple, deliver the results that people are actually searching for - regardless of what's new, "relevant", fresh or well-optimized.
